best thing EV-er

Imagine my glee and disbelief this past Sunday morning when a lovely young woman in a green apron stopped at the bottom of our front steps. There was a jerry can/thermos-looking thing on wheels beside her. I froze, garden trowel in hand, because she was sporting my most favouritest green & white logo in the whole wide world.

Her: "Good morning! The water was off on your street earlier, so we thought we'd stop by and see if anyone wanted coffee! Would you like a cup?"
Me: "Pardon?"

Now you have to understand something:
I love coffee and I am lazy. I've been known to nuke a cup of yesterday's coffee because I didn't feel like making a new pot. And even though there's a Starbucks at the top of my street -- literally a 3-minute walk if you're too hungover to muster a better pace -- sometimes that is just way too far. So for this coffee goddess to show up, unannounced, pouring free Pike Place Roast from the sidewalk was beyond remarkable.

With about as much grace as Ralphie when he runs back up the stairs to remove Aunt Clara's bunny suit, I flung myself into the house to get a mug.

Me: "Jewy!!! Starbucks is here!!!! Outside! Seriously!! Get out here NOW!"
Him: "Pardon?"

For the next few minutes, I was close to rapture, soft tears of joy streaming down my cheeks as I waved goodbye and farewell to the nice girl in the green smock. (Okay, I didn't really cry but you get the idea).

I realize not everyone is a fan and there will be those cynical soul suckers who suggest it was purely a marketing ploy concocted by the coffee "Man". Personally, I don't care. In these economic times, I think it's awesome that Starbucks displayed some out-of-the-box customer service and made this girl really really happy.

Tim Horton's and Second Cup can suck it. After all, where were they in my hour of need?

OMG, if Starbucks delivered, or hell, even Dunkin Donuts -- I'm in the sticks and can't be picky -- I could finally get to the point of never leaving the house. And if my partner would serve me breakfast in bed, I wouldn't even have to leave the bedroom.

You've given me a dream. Thank you.

Gurl - if someone in a green Starbucks apron showed up at my front door offering coffee in my hour of need, I would have asked if he/she were Jesus in need of a disciple.

Now that is some damn fine customer service! Curbside coffee service - building marketshare 1 cup at a time.

Since they built a Starbucks near me and the office, I am too lazy to make coffe too! I mean, really, how hard is "scoop, scoop, pour, flick". But I don't do it much anymore!

Hmmm ... guess there's no longer a need for me to pop down with random cappuccinos!

I love it!

This story has now traveled from Toronto to the coast of Spain and from there to me in greater Philadelphia, USA, so you know more than Starbucks' coffee is hot. Their people are pretty hot, too.

Stumbled, and I can hardly wait to link to you in my roundup of customer experience on Saturday. Thanks for writing about it!

Regards,

Kelly

So many comments! Holy holy!!

Okay, so...I've always thought Starbucks should deliver. Like when you just don't have the energy to make it yourself. Like pizza. Why can't we send out for coffee & biscotti like we can a double pepperoni with extra cheese?

I sent this post to Starbucks' customer service dept, so let's see what they have to say, if anything. I'll keep you posted.

Cuz that's my Bloggy Job.

I miss living in Toronto where there is a 'Bucks next to every subway station downtown.
And Canadians brew coffee WAY better than anyone else.

You're right. Tim Hortons can suck it.
